Newly restored and looking better than ever on DVD from ClassicFlix—Loretta Young stars in the pulse-pounding, edge-of-your-seat thriller Cause for Alarm! (1951).

Married after a whirlwind courtship during World War II, suburban housewife Ellen Jones (Young) copes with the fact that her husband George (Barry Sullivan) is now a bedridden invalid. Increasingly paranoid and quick to anger, George is convinced that Ellen is having an affair with their old friend (and George’s physician), Dr. Ranney Grahame (Bruce Cowling).

Afraid for his life and certain that Ellen and Ranney are conspiring to kill him by overdosing his medication, George composes a letter to the local district attorney requesting an investigation in the event of his untimely death. Ellen later unwittingly mails the letter, but upon learning of its contents shortly before George dies of natural causes, she goes to every length possible to retrieve the incriminating note!

Loretta Young gives a sensational performance in Cause for Alarm! as a woman trapped in a desperate situation, with taut direction courtesy of Tay Garnett (The Postman Always Rings Twice), and a memorable musical score by composer André Previn (My Fair Lady) who was only twenty-one at the time.

Co-written and produced by Young’s then-husband Tom Lewis, who would also later produce his wife’s long-running television series “The Loretta Young Show”, Alarm co-stars Barry Sullivan and Bruce Cowling, and features Irving Bacon, Margalo Gillmore and Art Baker.

For the first time in one collection comes all 22 Hal Roach Streamliners from ClassicFlix!

When you hear the word 'streamliner,' you might picture those high-speed passenger trains from the 1930s to the 1950s. For pioneering movie producer Hal Roach, however, 'streamliner' had an entirely different meaning.

The man whose film studio was home to such comedy legends as Laurel and Hardy saw a changing landscape in the picture business in the late 1930s and came up with the idea of producing features with run times of an hour or less to accommodate movie houses, as well as cut production costs. The concept would prove successful with 22 streamliners being produced by Roach between 1941 and 1948.

While their runtimes were less than a typical feature, the streamliners weren’t short on laughs and produced such hit series’ as the Tracy-Sawyer Military Comedies (6 films starring William Tracy and Joe Sawyer), the Taxi Comedies (3 films starring William Bendix and Joe Sawyer) and the Western Comedies (3 films starring Noah Beery, Jr. and Jimmy Rogers).

Roach also filmed three musical comedies, re-teamed the popular duo of ZaSu Pitts and Slim Summerville for two romps and later rebooted his former 'Our Gang' franchise in the form of two new Cinecolor 'Curley' comedies.

This special 22-film 4-disc collection is a must-have for any fan of Hal Roach comedies with each film culled from the original Hal Roach Studio masters.

Other stars and feature players include James Gleason, Margaret Dumont, Grace Bradley, Mike Mazurki, Marie Wilson, Walter Abel, Clarence Kolb, Jean Porter, Donald MacBride, Alan Mowbray, Frances Langford, Johnny Downs, Marc Lawrence, Douglas Fowley, Sheldon Leonard, Elyse Knox, Alan Hale, Jr., Frank Faylen, Marjorie Lord, Veda Ann Borg, Charles Lane, Marjorie Woodworth, Emory Parnell, Betty Compson, Joan Woodbury and many, many more.

Beautifully restored by ClassicFlix from 35mm film elements preserved by the Library of Congress, Thornton Wilder’s immortal classic Our Town (1940) starring William Holden and Martha Scott makes looks better than ever on DVD.

Touching, yet unsentimental—tender, yet heart-breaking, Thornton Wilder’s Pulitzer Prize-winning play Our Town is a pensive look surrounding the lives of two families in the fictitious hamlet of Grover’s Corners, New Hampshire. While a literal time capsule of early 20th century America, the story’s power transcends era and locale with its universally timeless themes of love, loss and the fleeting nature of life.

When independent producer Sol Lesser purchased the film rights to Our Town, he signed Wilder to adapt the play for the silver screen, as well as actor Frank Craven, who also reprised his stage role as the “stage manager” for the movie version. The film would go on to earn six Academy Award nominations in all, including Best Picture, Best Actress (Martha Scott in her film debut) and Best Original Score (Aaron Copland).

Directed by three-time Oscar nominee Sam Wood (Kitty Foyle) and featuring the innovative production design of William Cameron Menzies (Gone With the Wind), Our Town stars William Holden (Sunset Boulevard) in the role of George Gibbs with Scott reprising her role of Emily Webb from the stage play. Rounding out a top-notch cast is Thomas Mitchell (Alias Nick Beal), Beulah Bondi (Make Way for Tomorrow), Fay Bainter (Jezebel), Guy Kibbee (Captain January), Stuart Erwin (Make Me a Star), and the aforementioned Frank Craven.

BONUS FEATURES:

Now available for the first time on DVD from ClassicFlix—the fantastic science fiction-espionage TV series World of Giants!

During a secret mission behind the Iron Curtain, a freak accident involving an exploding rocket shrinks American agent Mel Hunter (Marshall Thompson, Daktari) to the size of six inches. But instead of ending his career, it turns out to be to his, and “The Bureau’s”, advantage as the pocket-sized operative is able to infiltrate areas closed off to the average G-man. Hunter is aided by his full-sized partner Agent Bill Winters (Arthur Franz, The Sniper), gal Friday Miss Brown (Marcia Henderson, The Glass Web) and Bureau Commissioner Hall (John Gallaudet, Perry Mason).

Touting a $4,000,000 budget, CBS tapped prolific production company Ziv TV to produce World of Giants (WOG) which started shooting in early 1958—with an expected fall network debut. Production was later halted when CBS was unable to obtain sponsorship for WOG causing the network to delay the series premiere a full year. But when shooting wrapped in 1959, World of Giants was still without a sponsor and CBS scrapped the idea of network distribution entirely which allowed WOG to go into first-run syndication starting in 1961.

WOG’s high production values allowed Ziv to hire such luminary sci-fi directors as Nathan Juran (20 Million Miles to Earth), Jack Arnold (Creature from the Black Lagoon) and Byron Haskin (The War of the Worlds), as well as involve famed production designer and art director Robert Kinoshita—known for his creation of iconic sci-fi robots such as “Robby the Robot” (Forbidden Planet) as well as for art direction on TV series’ such as Lost in Space.

World of Giants - The Complete Series includes all 13 episodes produced by Ziv and features guest stars including Peggie Castle, Gavin MacLeod, Tom Brown, Berry Kroeger, Bill Walker, Pamela Duncan, Ziva Rodann, Douglas Dick, Maria Palmer, Narda Onyx, Edgar Barrier, Nestor Paiva, Gregg Palmer and Allison Hayes.
