THIS ISLAND EARTH / THE DAY OF THE TRIFFIDS AND OTHER ALIEN INVASION FILMS

$19.95
Composed by:
Daniele Amfitheatrof, Hans J. Salter, Henry Mancini, Herman Stein, Ron Goodwin, Walter Greene

THIS ISLAND EARTH (and other alien invasion films), contains world premiere music from four classic outer space films of the 1950s and ’60s. This Island Earth was Universal-International’s only big-budget color sci-fi thriller of the fifties, and it’s considered one of the classics of the genre.

Also on the CD is a 20-minute suite from Ron Goodwin’s masterful The Day of The Triffids, a 1962 British film about killer plants (presumably) from space. Goodwin’s music includes lovely pastoral cues, shock sequences, and one of the most powerful Main Titles in all of monsterdom! Shimmering strings, a plethora of woodwinds, an abundance of French horns, and a wide variety of percussion helps this unique score stand apart from most monster movie soundtracks. A wonderful listening experience!

The album also contains two Main Titles of note. 1958’s War Of The Satellites is Walter Greene’s breakneck excursion that propels this Roger Corman quickee. And the opening from Ray Harryhausen’s 1956 special effects extravaganza Earth vs. The Flying Saucers, which perfectly sets the stage for the alien menace that will follow. This Daniele Amfitheatrof piece will revive memories in every person who grew up watching this sci-fi classic.

THE MONSTER THAT CHALLENGED THE WORLD

$19.95
Composed by:
            Heinz Roemheld

The Monster That Challenged the World [MMM-1961] is a classic Big Bug (well, Mammoth Mollusk) movie from the 1950s, and one of the reasons for its devoted following is the superb score by Academy Award-winning composer Heinz Roemheld (Dracula’s Daughter, The Black Cat, The Invisible Man).

In addition to lots of monstrous musical moments, the score also includes a beautiful love theme that the filmmakers had high hopes for as a hit song. Lots of pulse-pounding action, atmospheric cues that conjure the mysterious happenings, and bonus tracks, too! And for your kaiju fans, there’s even a piece of never-before-released music that was tracked into the American version of King Kong vs. Godzilla! This is the first release featuring a Roemheld movie score, and this limited-edition release of 1,000 copies contains every cue heard in the film as well as music that was not included in the picture. A truly great creature feature score that has been on “want lists” for decades. The 16-page liner book contains a lot of information about the music and contains photos of the lovely actress Audrey Dalton so you can swoon while you’re being terrified by the music!

THE BRAIN FROM PLANET AROUS / TEENAGE MONSTER

$19.95
Composed by:
            Walter Greene

The Brain From Planet Arous/Teenage Monster (MMM-1968) proves that dreams can come true. Walter Greene’s amazingly inventive score for the 1957 John Agar/Joyce Meadows B-movie classic is here in amazing fidelity and in its 43-minute entirety. Easily the greatest score for a film about a giant, evil, floating, sex-crazed brain from outer space, the music provides endless fun and incredible artistry. Greene scored the movie without a string section, instead incorporating four saxophones into his powerhouse orchestra.

In case this isn’t more fun than your brain can stand, 1957’s Teenage Monster might not be a classic flick, but Greene’s background score can now be heard on its own. This 33-minute soundtrack is an MMM bonus that will help shine a spotlight on an incredibly underrated composer who has never had an album devoted to his work. This Monstrous Movie Music release contains a 20-page liner book discussing all aspects of the music, as well as containing copies of some of the written scores. Striking cover art by the renowned Robert Aragon.

THE BLOB

$19.95
Composed by:

The Blob (and other creepy sounds) features the complete original Ralph Carmichael soundtrack from the 1958 cult monster movie starring Steve McQueen. The CD features every cue from the movie as well as music not heard in the picture, totalling about 37 minutes -- all in original, gorgeous monophonic sound. Of particular note is the unused “Main Title,” which was replaced by the Burt Bacharach/Mack David novelty song. The original orchestral cue is an outstanding piece that perfectly prepares you for the unfolding horror of the movie – as opposed to the humorous approach the song took. Both opening cues are included in this release.

The remainder of the CD is packed with almost 40 minutes of horror, suspense, and atmospheric cues from the Valentino Production Music Library, including pieces used in The Green Slime, The Brain That Wouldn’t Die, Terror From the Year 5000, as well as in the collectible album “Attilio Mineo Conducts Man in Space with Sounds.” Film composers represented include such distinguished figures as Angelo Francesco Lavagnino, Roger Roger, and Mario Nascimbene.
