$11.95
Composed by:
            Joe Harnell

Five Jays Records presents a disc-on-demand release of music from STOP SUSAN WILLIAMS and THE SECRET EMPIRE, two segments from the 1979 television anthology CLIFFHANGERS!, written and directed by Kenneth Johnson (THE BIONIC MAN, THE INCREDIBLE HULK, V : The Original Mini-Series). The show was inspired by and emulated the movie serials of the 1930s and 1940s. Under the umbrella title CLIFFHANGERS!, three separate serialized made-for-TV movies would be told simultaneously, shown in separate 20-minute segments during each of the series' hour-long episodes.

Previously, there was a two-disc set released of the music from CURSE OF DRACULA (JHCD 031), the lead feature on CLIFFHANGERS! and now fans of the other two adventures, STOP SUSAN WILLIAMS and THE SECRET EMPIRE, can enjoy more of these loving tributes to those thrilling theatrical serials of yesteryear.

Beloved composer Joe Harnell teamed up once again with creator/producer Kenneth Johnson and delivered memorable scores for CLIFFHANGERS, much as he had done on other TV projects including THE INCREDIBLE HULK, the original “V” mini-series, HOT PURSUIT, and the pilot for ALIEN NATION. Harnell also composed music for the soap opera SANTA BARBARA (available on Dragon’s Domain Records DDR672).

THE JOE KRAEMER COLLECTION: VOLUME 1 (CD-R)

$11.95
Composed by:
            Joe Kraemer

Dragon’s Domain Records presents THE JOE KRAEMER COLLECTION: VOLUME 1, featuring music composed by Joe Kraemer (THE WAY OF THE GUN, JACK REACHER, MISSION IMPOSSIBLE: ROGUE NATION) for two films from his extensive filmography, THE HITCHER II: I’VE BEEN WAITING and JOY RIDE 2: DEAD AHEAD.

Released in 2003, THE HITCHER II: I’VE BEEN WAITING was directed by Louis Morneau (BATS), written by Eric Red, Molly Meeker and Charles R. Meeker, starring C.Thomas Howell, Kari Wuhrer and Jake Busey. The film catches up with Jim Halsey (Howell) fifteen years after his horror filled trip through Texas at the hands of a psychotic drifter as chronicled in the events of the first film. After being discharged from the police force after using excessive force on a suspect, Jim decides to take a trip back to Texas with his girlfriend, Maggie (Wuhrer) to face the demons of his past and visit his old friend, Captain Estridge. On the way, the couple make the mistake of picking up another hitchhiker, Jim (Busey), who remarkably also happens to have most of his screws loose and Jim and Maggie find themselves taking part in a new cat-and-mouse tour of Texas with Jim in relentless pursuit.

Heavily affected by Kraemer’s score for THE WAY OF THE GUN, director Louis Morneau knew exactly what he wanted musically for THE HITCHER II and sought out Joe to score the film.

Released in 2008 after the surprise success of the first film, JOY RIDE 2: DEAD AHEAD was also directed by Louis Morneau, written by James Robert Johnston, Bennett Yellin and Clay Tarver, starring Nicki Aycox, Nick Zano, Laura Jordan, Kyle Schmid and Mark Gibbon as Rusty Nail. While driving to Las Vegas for the bachelor party of her sister Melissa (Aycox) and her fiancé Bobby (Zano), Kayla (Jordan) stops the car at a gas station to meet her date, Nik (Schmid). Nik convinces her to take the car down a back road and the car breaks down. They find a house in the middle of nowhere and decide to take the car parked in the garage to the nearest city and return the car later. Melissa leaves her cell phone number. Along the way, the car is damaged because of Nik’s stupidity and they plan to rent a car and return to the house to pay for the damages to the car. Unknown to them, the owner of the house is the psychotic Rusty Nail and the friends realize they are going to have to pay a much higher price than expected for what they did...

Joe Kraemer has been scoring films since the age of 15, when he composed the soundtrack for his high school classmate’s feature-length indie shot on Super 8 in 1986. Joe attended the renowned Berklee College of Music in Boston to study film composition. In the following years, Kraemer carved out an eclectic career scoring various genres. He has written music for over 100 films, with about 40 of those just for the Hallmark Channel/Larry Levinson Productions. Furthermore, he has scored for episodic television, television movies, documentaries, and short films, including his scores for John Putch's THE POSEIDON ADVENTURE and A TIME TO REMEMBER, as well as the MYSTERY WOMAN series, and westerns such as HARD GROUND, LONE RIDER and THE TRAIL TO HOPE ROSE. His filmography includes THE WAY OF THE GUN, JACK REACHER, MISSION: IMPOSSIBLE – ROGUE NATION, THE MAN WHO KILLED HITLER AND THEN THE BIGFOOT, the documentary KING COHEN and television series COMRADE DETECTIVE, CREEPED OUT and PANDORA. Joe frequently does Masterclasses in composition for media for various colleges and organizations, including Columbia College Chicago, Media Sound Hamburg, and the Hollywood Music Workshop.

Dragon’s Domain Records presents THE JOE KRAEMER COLLECTION – VOLUME 1, featuring the premiere releases of music composed by Joe Kraemer for THE HITCHER II: I’VE BEEN WAITING and JOY RIDE 2: DEAD AHEAD The liner notes are written by the composer himself, along with director Louis Morneau.
BUKIMISHA: AKIRA IFUKUBE LOST MUSIC AND RARITIES (500 EDITION)

$17.95
Composed by:
            Akira Ifukube

Bukimisha Goes Orchestral . . . AGAIN!

Bukimisha, that weird and mysterious group from Japan has once more assembled a symphonic orchestra to record rare works created by the legendary composer AKIRA IFUKUBE that were once thought lost.

In 1950, Maestro Ifukube was engaged to score an ambitious 2-film Japanese adaption of the classic novel LES MISERABLES. Unfortunately, the studio collapsed soon after release and the original films faded into obscurity. Utilizing the original score sheets from the composer’s own archives, Takeo Yahiro was able to mount a brand new recording of twelve tracks primarily composed for the first chapter, GODS AND DEMONS.

In 1961, Daiei Studios mounted a lavish epic tale about the founding of Buddhism in India, shot in 70mm with hundreds of extras on spectacular sets. Ifukube wrote an extensive score that was performed by the Tokyo Symphonic Orchestra. Unfortunately, the master tapes are believed lost. On this album, nine early sketches of melodic material have been recovered and recorded from the original manuscripts. A planned but abandoned overture for the film entitled “Preludio” has been included.

Two additional “curiosities” for giant monster fans are also included, an unrecorded alternate cue for KING KONG VS. GODZILLA and the main title for the 1948 comedy THE PRESIDENT AND THE SHOPGIRL, which is a bouncy early version of what would become known as the GODZILLA theme.

These scores were discovered amongst the Maestro’s personal archives by his family after he had passed. Unwilling to let these rare works languish in obscurity, Takeo Yahiro and Bukimisha opted to once again assemble an orchestra as required by the scores to immortalize these unique finds. This release marks the first time the recording has ever been available for sale outside of Japan until now.

Bukimisha, a self-proclaimed ‘secret society’ (whose name, pronounced “Boo-key-may-sha,” and roughly translates into “Creepy Company”) has enthralled Japanese audiences over several decades. They have transformed their love of music into a unique art form, building an impressive catalog exceeding 170 albums. Many of them feature selections from Akira Ifukube’s vast output of classical compositions and complete film scores. Bukimisha was even given the opportunity to perform before the legendary composer at one of his final birthday celebrations.

Dragon’s Domain is proud to offer this remarkable performance, mastered by James Nelson at Digital Outland from the original digital recordings, all supervised and approved by conductor Takeo Yahiro. Exclusive liner notes by scholar Erik Homenick (akiraifukube.org) detail the mysterious history of this wonderful “lost” material, as well as Akira Ifukube’s life and career.

SCUSI, MA LEI LE PAGA LE TASSE? / COME RUBAMMO LA BOMBA ATOMICA

$19.95
Composed by:

CFSoundtracks and Beat Records are pleased to release on CD for the first absolute time two original soundtracks for '...scusi, ma lei le paga le tasse?' directed in 1971 by Mino Guerrini starring Franco Franchi e Ciccio Ingrassia, Lino Banfi, Karin Schubert. The film was shot almost entirely in the Primavalle area of Rome in 1971. Musically, Lallo Gori wrote a score with the typical sounds of that period with shake passages, funny motifs and pleasant swing fugatos where Nora Orlandi's 4+4 choir intervenes .

'Come rubammo la bomba atomica' directed by Lucio Fulci starring Franco Franchi e Ciccio Ingrassia, Julie Menard, Bonvi, Enzo Andronico. The film was shot first in Rome and then in Egypt in 1967.

The stay in Egypt was characterized by a very funny anecdote: Franco and Ciccio had never previously gone abroad and were terrified of planes. Having arrived in Egypt, fearful of local customs and diseases, they had brought crates of pasta, boxes of peeled tomatoes and mineral water from Italy. Lallo Gori wrote a score based on espionage atmospheres, with Middle Eastern colors and a captivating main theme that often recurs in instrumental variations and the vocal form sung by Elsa called 'Protesto' who also performs the opening titles song 'Shari el Nil' (these two songs are all that was released in 1967 on a 45 rpm single by Beat Record, which cannot be found today). This CD with the generous length of 78:39 has been realized using the the mono master tapes of the original recording sessions.

Mastering by Claudio Fuiano, graphic layout by Daniele De Gemini and Claudio Fuiano, liner notes by Giacomo Di Nicolo.

L’ALBA DELL’UOMO (DAWN OF MAN)

$19.95
Composed by:
            Piero Piccioni

Beat Records is pleased to present on CD the complete edition of the score by Piero Piccioni for Folco Quilici's TV series L'alba dell'uomo (Dawn of Man), broadcast by RAI between 1970 and 1974. The origins of man and his culture are 'rediscovered' in the contemporary world through a series of eight one-hour episodes which won the Italian Television Critics Award in 1975-1976. The documentarian, writer, and explorer Folco Quilici has always given great importance to music in the productions he directed, working with great names in local film music such as Roberto Nicolosi (Sesto continente), Angelo F. Lavagnino (L’ultimo paradiso), Francesco De Masi (Dagli Appennini alle Ande, Ti-Koyo e il suo pescecane), Teo Usuelli (Le schiave esistono ancora), Ennio Morricone (Oceano, Cacciatori di navi), and Piero Piccioni (Il dio sotto la pelle, Fratello mare). The same goes for the television productions written and directed by Folco Quilici: Francesco De Masi (Alla scoperta dell’Africa, Alla scoperta dell’India, and L’uomo europeo), Piero Piccioni (Islam, L’alba dell’uomo, and Genti e paesi), and for L’Italia vista dal cielo, produced between 1968 and 1978, the director had at his disposal a entire team of composers including Giancarlo Gazzani, Francesco De Masi, Piero Piccioni, Ennio Morricone, Bruno Nicolai, Luis Bacalov, Giorgio Zinzi, and Giorgio Carnini.

At the time, not a single note was released from this soundtrack in official form, so we had to wait until 2009, when the Japanese label Verita Note released an anthology CD (VQCD -1027) by Piero Piccioni with eighteen musical selections from L' alba dell’uomo combined with themes from Genti e paesi, Russia allo specchio, and L’Italia vista dal cielo. These eighteen tracks then appeared on digital platforms, but for this special CD edition, we used the stereo master tapes of the original recording sessions, which allowed us to discover sixteen unreleased songs that bring the album to a total duration of 71:00.

For this series, Piero Piccioni composed a decidedly varied soundtrack. In the opening credits, a slow main theme emerges with ethnic flavor provided by the horns, rhythm section, chordophones, and flute (Tr. 1), reprised with the organ (Tr. 4), with a similar instrumentation as in the opening credits (Tr. 7 ), for organ and celesta (Tr. 26), for piano and organ (Tr. 30), and the finale reprise (Tr. 34). To describe the various environments where man lives, from the dawn of humanity to the modern era, Piero Piccioni creates many fascinating sound dimensions. Music between experimental and psychedelia describes the creation of the cosmos or scenes of hunting in the wild (Tr. 3, Tr. 9, Tr. 12, Tr. 18, Tr. 20, Tr. 22). The composer also wrote memorable shake themes that represent the evolution of man towards modern progress (Tr. 2, Tr. 6, Tr. 11, Tr. 15, Tr. 21, Tr. 24, Tr. 27, Tr. 32). Worthy of note is a mystical pastoral theme (Tr. 5, Tr. 10, Tr. 17), also reprised with pop rhythms (Tr. 19). This CD is released as a sincere homage to the visual art of Folco Quilici and the musical art of Piero Piccioni.
