GHOST HOUSE

$15.95
Composed by:

Howlin' Wolf Records is very proud to present GHOST HOUSE, a richly textured, haunting, and beautiful score by director and composer Rich Ragsdale. For GHOST HOUSE the composer used a three-tiered approach, anchored by a classical symphonic horror score recorded using the Budapest Scoring Orchestra conducted by Péter Pejtsik. This is augmented by 80's synth elements, paying homage to scores by Goblin and John Carpenter. Finally, ambient ethnic sounds were incorporated to honor Thailand where the film is set, featuring monks recorded live in a Thai temple. The album concludes with a melodically lovely, yet eerie vocal track gorgeously performed by Sherri Chung.

The insert booklet for GHOST HOUSE features liner notes written by the film's director and composer Rich Ragsdale. The packaging designs by Luis Miguel Rojas are both beautiful and frightening to reflect the essence of the film and the score.

It's kill or be killed.

Howlin' Wolf Records is proud to present Matt Cannon's multiple award-winning soundtrack for FORCE TO FEAR. Released in 2020 and co-written/directed by Zane Hershberger and Chad Bruns, the film pays homage to great action horror films of the '80s such as SILENT RAGE.

The score “has both inventive and innovative qualities, but above all contains a sound that we readily associate with horror films from the '80s and evokes memories of such composers as Jay Chattaway, Alan Silvestri, Brad Fiedel, Harold Faltermeyer, and Alan Howarth. There was a distinct sound that became standard during that decade and Matt Cannon has successfully re-created this sound, whilst also placing his own inimitable musical fingerprint upon the production, fusing both styles and putting them to effective and affecting use.” -John Mansell, Movie Music International

For FORCE TO FEAR, composer Matt Cannon used an impressive array of synth and synth plug-ins, including OPX-PRO II (Oberheim) TAL-U-NO-LX (Juno 60) TAL-SAMPLER, VI FM SUITE (DX1, Dx7), UVI EMULATOR II (Emulator II), ARTURIA MINI V (MiniMoog), UVI PX10 (PROPHET 10), UVI Darklight (farlight). The soundtrack concludes with the fantastic track “Judge and the Jury” by the band Voltheque from their EP VERDICT.

FORCE TO FEAR features a 28-page booklet with a foreword by filmmaker Zane Hershberger, liner notes by writer John Mansell, and composer's notes and track summaries by Matt Cannon, all presented with vivid '80s-vibe imagery, color pallets, and original cover artwork by Austin Hinderliter (Creepy Carves).
SILENT NIGHT, DEADLY NIGHT (2 CD)

$19.95
Composed by:
            Perry Botkin

You've made it through Halloween, now try and survive Christmas.

Howlin' Wolf Records is proud to present a Two-Disc Set for the 35th Anniversary of SILENT NIGHT, DEADLY NIGHT. Disc One is the complete score by Grammy-winning composer Perry Botkin and Disc Two contains the songs written for the film by renowned songwriter and singer Morgan Ames.

On November 9th of 1984, a mentally-tortured and deranged Santa was unleashed on an unwitting public, and the result was a mayhem of whimsically evil holiday fun that thrills horror film lovers annually. The film also provoked the ire of those who wanted to censor the concept of an unhinged Santa. Screenwriter Michael Hickey sardonically recalls, 'America's moral guardians decided that nobody of any age should be permitted to see any entertainment that was not suitable for a six-year-old child.'

The concept for a killer Santa was the creative muse of film producers Scott Schneid and Dennis Whitehead and brought to life for celluloid by screenwriter Michael Hickey and director Charles E. Sellier, Jr. The film follows Billy Chapman from his disturbing encounters with malevolent grandfather Chapman through the horrific murders of both of his parents by an evil Santa on the lam. Afterwards Billy and his brother are sent to an orphanage with a stern disciplinarian Mother Superior (brilliantly played by Lilyan Chauvin), and Billy finally lands at the toy store with the bumbling Mr. Sims, who after having him dress up as Santa, finally sends Billy over the edge as a Santa who has EVERYONE on his 'naughty' list!

The score by composer Perry Botkin is a classic electronic score from the '80's that is truly one of the most celebrated elements of this perennial cult classic. The composer recounts, 'I'd never seen a slasher movie in my life until I watched SILENT NIGHT, DEADLY NIGHT, so I had no preconception about what a slasher/horror score should sound like, or what other horror composers had done in the past or were doing at that time. I just sat down with my Mac Plus, banged away, and out came the score.' ...And what came out is a brilliant mash-up of frenzied horror cacophony blended with melodious euphony, and a virtual carnival funhouse of electronic holiday madness. As an added treat, the release features a second disc with all of the songs written by Morgan Ames, which throughout the film add just the right touch to contrast the merriment of Christmas against the backdrop of a horror film.

For the SILENT NIGHT, DEADLY NIGHT 35th Anniversary Edition, audio technician Ian Zapczynski sourced Perry Botkin's score from the 192 kHz direct transfers of the composer's original analog master tapes, with the tape-to-digital transfers supervised by Howlin' Wolf Records at Avatar Studios in NYC. It was important to salvage every piece of audio that would be of interest to soundtrack collectors, and at the highest audiophile-grade quality possible, securing this as the definitive edition of the complete SILENT NIGHT, DEADLY NIGHT soundtrack set on CD. All tracks for Perry Botkin's score were fully remastered from the flat tape transfers, and digital restoration techniques were used where necessary, with care to remain faithful to the high quality of the master recording. In addition, two short tracks that were not previously released are added to the tracklist, including the film's opening 'Santa's Watching.' The construct for this soundtrack edition centers around the original mixes used in the film and the alternate mixes prepared for an '80's LP release that never came to fruition. Each alternate mix contains audible differences from its corresponding track, most notably a heavier use of reverb and stereo separation on the tracks mixed for the never released '80's LP.

Howlin' Wolf Records' 35th Anniversary Release for SILENT NIGHT, DEADLY NIGHT is a pressing of 300 CDs, featuring the unforgettable original poster art for the film, a 20-page deluxe booklet with liner notes by Co-Executive Producers Scott Schneid & Dennis Whitehead, Screenwriter Michael Hickey, and Composer Perry Botkin, all balanced against a canvas of beautiful designs and vivid imagery by graphic artist and long-time Howlin' Wolf Records Art Director Luis Miguel Rojas.

THE JACK IN THE BOX: AWAKENING

$15.95
Composed by:

Open the box, unleash the demon.

Howlin' Wolf Records proudly presents Christoph Allerstorfer's score for THE JACK IN THE BOX: AWAKENING (2022). The setting for the sequel to writer/director Lawrence Fowler's 2019 demon monster horror flick, THE JACK IN THE BOX, is the Rosewood Manor estate where Olga Marsdale, played by Nicola Wright, is dying from terminal osteosarcoma. The film has an unsettling sense of isolation, and while set in modern times, maintains an eerie period feel with superb set design, cinematography, and a creature that is, simply put, nightmarishly terrifying. The gripping story blurs the lines between the monsters in our darkest imagination and the real 'monsters' that lurk everywhere. Fowler delivers a horror film in the mold of classic monster movies featuring a terrifying and relentless creature whose inhuman gurgling and rasping shrieks are the stuff of nightmares.
Breathing emotional depth and life into every scene in THE JACK IN THE BOX: AWAKENING, as only a great score can, is Christoph Allerstorfer's gothic symphony performed by a 42-piece orchestra, Big Island Orchestra Vienna. As Fowler ups the ante with a sequel that is unapologetically meaner, badder, and bigger than the original, Allerstorfer matches this force head-on with a score that eloquently soars to greater heights, hallmarking a sophisticated and lush approach that builds palpable foreboding dread, in exquisite style. To be treated to a horror movie and story of this caliber, with a grande score performed by an orchestra comprised of Vienna's best classical musicians, will leave you applauding.

THE JACK IN THE BOX: AWAKENING is lovingly dedicated to the memory of our dear friend and longtime Howlin' Wolf Records producer and promotional specialist Jeremy Hawkins by composer Christoph Allerstorfer and the entire HWR team.

THE JACK IN THE BOX: AWAKENING features a 16-page booklet with liner notes by composer Christoph Allerstorfer and a special note from writer/director Lawrence Fowler, all presented with gorgeous imagery from the film, orchestra sessions, and packaging by Howlin' Wolf Records' renowned Art Director Luis Miguel Rojas.
