Allo Sport...
The songs that are an integral part of the thirteen episodes of the television series were
composed by the great, eclectic Maestro Ennio Morricone. Musical compositions included in
these documentaries, were not designed for a slected audience like that of films, but for a wider
catchment area as that of television. While "simplified", both in instrumentation and in the form
of composition, the themes are so lively descriptive that the scene is perceived even without the
pictures. So the tracks go from a quiet slow to paced percussions, from delicate and
contrapuntal spinet sounds to a bursting vocal samba, into a kaleidoscope of tonal-harmonic
solutions still relevant today. It is only up to the listener the fun game to understand for which
sport the song was concieved and implemented. These compositions deal with the various
sporting moments and they are a bit beyond the usual kind of the many compositions that
Maestro Morricone has treated so far. But Maestro Morricone, which surely loves the
challanges in the filed of music has adapted well to follow thythmic movements of the sports
that are on video and the result is a musical score fitting and pleasant to listen, that enhances the
various rhythms and pleasantly accompanies sports.
