GDM Music reissue on CD the OST composed by Ennio Morricone for the dramatic movie “Una pura
formalità” (aka “A pure formality”) directed in 1994 by Giuseppe Tornatore and starring Gérard
Depardieu, Roman Polanski, Sergio Rubini, Nicola Di Pinto, Paolo Lombardi, Tano Cimarosa, Maria
Rosa Spagnolo, Alberto Sironi, Mahdi Kraiem, Massimo Vanni, Sebastiano Filocamo, Timothy Martin.
Onoff (Depardieu) is a famous writer who, while fleeing from a forest at night, was stopped by the
police and taken to the police station in a small provincial center for investigation, since it is devoid of
identity documents. Here the Inspector (Polanski) explains him that he?ll need to keep him, as a
formality, because that night in the woods a murder was committed . A long interrogation begins
during which Onoff first confesses to have invented his own biography, and that his real name is
Biagio February (name given to him because he was found just born, the day of St. Blaise, February
3) and he must his pseudonym Onoff and his first book of success to a mysterious homeless man,
his teacher and friend. The suspected one then recalls the stormy day before, where he had a row
with Paola (Spanish), his secretary and lover, and then he did cut his beard. Onoff also reveals his
artistic crisis that prevented him from writing new books, culminating with the desire to be forgotten.
Then he confesses the truth, that the commissioner appeared to have understood or even known
from the beginning: the man has killed himself, committing suicide. Onoff now realizes why the phone
line did not work with which he wanted to warn Paola and why the pens with which he had tried to
write were without ink: this place is not of this world. At dawn and without putting up more resistance,
Onoff is taken away from the barracks aboard a truck. He leaves cordially with the Commissioner,
who tells him that he has started to read the manuscript of his latest unpublished story, found in his
house (maybe he already knows, according to the logic afterlife), a novel that once again allows him
to praise his literary genius. For this story at the borders of reality, Ennio Morricone has composed
dramatic contemporary music, perfect to describe this kind of "other dimension" in which the
protagonists are placed, alternated with calm instrumental versions of "Ricordare". The song, music
by Ennio and Andrea Morricone with the lyrics by director Tornatore and performed in italian and
french by Gerard Depardieu. For the making of this CD a first-generation master of the original album
was used properly remastered and restored in digital.
