One of Jerry Goldsmith’s personal favorites and still one of the finest soundtracks ever created for a western. Includes the song he composed for the main titles ("Tomorrow Is The Song I Sing") and incorporates elements of two other songs ("Butterfly Mornin’s" and "Wait for Me, Sunrise"), both composed for the film by Richard Gillis. It’s a nostalgic, weathered, and spirited western and this first ever release of the film’s soundtrack not only fills an important hole in the composer’s discography but also certainly can be considered absolutely essential Goldsmith.
Double-crossed and left without water in the desert, Cable Hogue is saved when he finds a spring. It is in just the right spot for a much needed rest stop on the local stagecoach line, and Hogue uses this to his advantage. He builds a house and makes money off the stagecoach passengers. Hildy, a whore from the nearest town, moves in with him. Hogue has everything going his way until the advent of the automobile ends the era of the stagecoach.Stars Jason Robards and Stella Stevens.
