STORMY WEATHER (1943) (SPECIAL PROMOTION) (BLU-RAY)
Starring:  Lena Horne, Bill (Bojangles) Robinson, Cab Calloway and His Band, Katherine Dunham, Fats Waller
Directed By:  Andrew L. Stone
Composed By:  Harold Arlen, Various

“Stormy Weather functions as a kind of antidote to the all-white worlds shown in so many classic movies, and it demonstrates the wide variety of astonishing talent that African-American entertainers brought to American culture in the early part of the twentieth century.”
—examiner.com

“Delightfully entertaining…the performers are nothing less than amazing—a solid-gold succession of great artists at their best.”
—Glenn Erickson, DVD Talk

“A first-rate show…To single out each entertainer and skit for even a sentence would run this report to considerable length. In short, ‘swell’ is the adjective for all twelve of the principal turns.”
—The New York Times

Stormy Weather (1943) is a groundbreaking musical featuring an astounding all-African-American cast, perhaps never matched for sheer brilliance. The film’s slight show biz-based romance is really a pretext for some twenty musical numbers performed by the sterling likes of Lena Horne, Bill Robinson, Cab Calloway, Fats Waller, The Nicholas Brothers, and the Katherine Dunham dance troupe. The outstanding musical score is highlighted by Waller’s performance of his own “Ain’t Misbehavin’” and the classic title tune by Harold Arlen and Ted Koehler, sung in barn-burning fashion by the inimitable Miss Horne.
