SYNOPSIS - Sam Peckinpah's badly re-edited and cut (the film was extensively re-edited and ten minutes removed before its release in 1965) almost-masterpiece stars Charlton Heston as Major Amos Charles Dundee, who finds himself isolated at a fort at the close of the Civil War. Dundee is the warden of a rag-tag collection of Confederate prisoners, Union deserters, and hard time prisoners. When a band of Apaches led by Sierra Charriba (Michael Pate) massacres a cavalry force, kidnaps three children, and races across the border to Mexico, Dundee is determined to hunt the Apaches down. Utilizing his small force from the prison fort and augmenting it with Confederate prisoners who are given the option of joining in the march or being killed, Dundee sets off. Commanding the Confederate wing of Dundee's troops is Captain Benjamin Tyreen (Richard Harris), who vows to kill Dundee after the completion of the mission. The feud between the two men heats up even further when, once the force invades Mexico, both men vie for the affections of Teresa Santiago (Senta Berger), the widow of a murdered Mexican doctor. Dundee finally catches up with Charriba's Apaches and the U.S. forces defeat the Indians. But once the dust of battle has cleared, Dundee must still deal with his embittered enemy, Tyreen. 1965
