"The Sea Wolf" by Jack London is one of the most filmed stories in movie history. Erich Wolfgang Korngold's score for the 1941 version -stark and brutally dissonant -shows him at his most dramatic.

His most famous film score was for the 1938 Technicolor classic "The Adventures" of Robin Hood starring Errol Flynn. It won Korngold his second Oscar for Best Score, and soon after its release he assembled a short concert suite in four movements, one of the first pieces of film music to be played in concert.

Korngold's method in composing for film was unique. Once filming was complete he would improvise at the piano while simultaneously watching the running film, until his music fitted the action like a hand in a glove. Later he would write out these sequences from memory, and, to the amazement of his colleagues, his innate sense of timing made him correct to the last fraction of a second.

Korngold made the move from classical composer to Hollywood with major success. His wonderful command of the orchestra and sweeping romantic sounds has influenced many later composers.

This is the premiere recording of the complete score of Korngold's "The Sea Wolf."

"Robin Hood" is regarded as one of the most influential scores ever written for the cinema, and shows Korngold at his swashbuckling best!
