Since Breakfast at Tiffany's has such a large fan base, it was a shoe-in for an early DVD release. Full of Manhattan location shooting and filmed in Technicolor, the anamorphic widescreen transfer is a vast improvement on the earlier video releases of the movie, and the Dolby Digital 2.0 Surround audio transfer perfectly balances Henry Mancini's justly praised score with George Axelrod's rich dialogue. It would have been interesting to have a DVD extra that compared this delightful movie with the darker, richly bittersweet Truman Capote novella or that included remembrances from surviving cast and crew. Regardless, this DVD edition is still well worth owning. Paramount has reissued Breakfast at Tiffany's on DVD but it is essentially the same as this edition. 1961
