Andrés Goldstein and Daniel Tarrab's sumptuous, yearning musical score to Academy Award® winning director Luis Puenzo's La Puta y la Ballena is to be released by Mellowdrama Records. Jointly-composed by Argentina's leading film composers, the soundtrack features delicate romantic writing for full orchestra and original pastiche tangos.
Set over a span of seventy years, in Bueno Aires of the 1930s to present-day Patagonia, the film examines the spiritual re-awakening of a female journalist who is researching the passionate affair between a photographer, a prostitute, and a blind tango musician.
The forthcoming album, previously released by a domestic record label in Argentina with limited availability, will be newly-mastered and feature comprehensive liner notes. The composers' music is performed by the National Symphony Orchestra of the Republic of Argentina with resplendent, virtuosic solo turns by famed bandoneón performer (and contemporary of Astor Piazolla), Nestor Marconi.
Nominated in 2004 for two World Soundtrack Awards, and a Silver Condor at the Argentinean Film Critics Association Awards, La Puta y la Ballena has long-deserved an international release. The new album continues Mellowdrama's commitment to deliver world soundtracks that might never reach an appreciative listening audience.
